Missing for Nearly 80 Years at Iwo Jima, Marine from New Jersey to Be Laid to Rest
Pvt. George Coe Browning is finally coming home. Nearly 80 years after the Marine went missing in action during the bloody invasion of Iwo Jima, the former Bergen County resident will be laid to rest Monday in Englewood's Brookside Cemetery alongside his mother. Fire Hydrant Maintenance Starting Monday Night In Verona
VERONA, NJ - The Township of Verona Public Works will be conducting maintenance on fire hydrants for three weeks starting Monday, through Thursday, September 5. Hydrant flushing will take place between the hours of 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Thursday. The Township of Verona says residents may experience brown water or low water pressure during these times. Paramus Proposing Purchase of New Fire Truck as Part of $8.9M Expenditure
PARAMUS, NJ - The borough is proposing an $8.9 million bond ordinance to obtain a new fire engine and new vehicles, among other items. During the period between August 12, 2024, through August 18, 2024, members of the GRPD handled 347 calls for service, the highlights of which included:. 10:05 AM – A Glen Rock resident reported being notified that a Synchrony American Eagle credit account had been fraudulently opened in their name. Person(s) unknown had used the complainant’s date of birth, Social Security number, and maiden name to open the account which had $750 charged to it. The bank was immediately notified, and the account was closed. The matter was referred to the Detective Bureau for review.

Two Newark preservationists have resigned from a city commission over a controversial project at Penn Station. Richard Partyka, who spent the last seven years protecting the city’s historic buildings as chair of the Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission, stepped down. A few days later, he was followed by the vice chair Susana Holguin-Veras. The absence of leadership has left the commission in limbo – their last meeting was in April.
Store Employee Assaulted with Chair Over Sandwich Price
MONTCLAIR, NJ - An employee at the Mission Mart on Mission Street reported an altercation with a customer that escalated into violence. According to the police, the August 6 incident began when a man entered the store and ordered a sandwich. A verbal dispute ensued between the man and the employee over the price of the sandwich.
