Caribbean Restaurant Planned For Former Noni’s Space

A new concept is in the works at the space formerly occupied by Noni’s , an Italian-American eatery that closed in October.

Miss Conduck is planned for the building at 357 Edgewood Ave SE.

The restaurant is a new venture from a mother-and-daughter duo from New York, Emily James and LaToya Franklyn , Eater Atlanta reports . The Caribbean fusion menu will include oxtails, stew chicken, curry, macaroni pie, rasta pasta and cocktails, as well as brunch items on weekends.

Noni’s closed last fall after 15 years in the Old Fourth Ward. Noni’s owner Matt Ruppert , who lives in Amsterdam and operates a nacho and cocktail bar called Parakeet , told What Now Atlanta at the time of their closing that the long-distance restaurant ownership was getting tough.

“After four plus years of doing both as the same time, I’m ready to say, let’s close the books on my beloved baby, Noni’s, so I can focus more on my life in Amsterdam,” Ruppert said at the time.

Noni’s had been known for its late-night fun, including dance parties and open mic comedy.

According to a liquor license application, live entertainment and dancing are proposed for the new restaurant. Miss Conduck’s operating hours are expected to be 4 p.m. to midnight. But neighbors need not be concerned; the application states that they are catering to an older crowd, so music will not be loud. The 2,650-square-foot restaurant has a seating capacity of 120.

When reached by What Now Atlanta , James said they don’t have an opening date yet, but it could possibly be in the spring.

This is their first time opening a restaurant, but James operated several businesses in New York, including a daycare center and an event space.
