(FOX40.COM) — A Wheatland man is facing charges in connection with the 16-acre Adams Fire in Lake County on Wednesday, according to CAL FIRE.

Investigators determined the mad had been using a weed-eater in dry grass when it sparked and started the fire.

He is facing misdemeanor charges for violation of Health and Safety Code 13001 and California Public Resources Code 4431 and 4435.

“Given the combination of extreme heat, elevated fire conditions and an abundant, cured grass and shrub crop across most of California, CAL FIRE will be instituting maximum enforcement on human-caused wildfire,” CAL FIRE wrote in a news release.

The Adams Fire prompted evacuations in the Lake County community of Lower Lake as it spread rapidly through the grass-oak woodland in 100-plus degree temperatures.
