Trash or Treasure: Is This the Best Antique Mall in Indiana?
Indiana is chock-full of places to enjoy antiquing or shopping for vintage goodies, but according to some, one location serves as a prime hunting ground. As a longtime Star Wars fan, I'm always looking for new places to browse for vintage collectibles. Most recently, I recently secured an original Kenner "snow speeder" from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, that was in pretty rough shape. I had to repair a few broken pieces, replace the stickers, and even order a couple of new parts. But with a little elbow grease, I soon had it restored to it's original, or at least, near original condition. It was a fun project.
Fox Pointe’s first Friday Night Lights concert of the summer serves up country music, Nashville style
LANSING, Ill. (June 23, 2024) – The first concert of Fox Pointe’s Friday Night Lights series catered to local country music fans. Two tribute bands — Ultimate Eric Church and Tennessee Whiskey Chicago — served up outlaw country, southern country, and southern soul with the Nashville sounds of Eric Church and Chris Stapleton respectively.
Muralists Wanted by the Valparaiso Creative Council – Deadline June 28th
The Valparaiso Creative Council has recently added a new mural location to our August 24, 2024 Mural Week kick-off. They are partnered with Evan Costas of Birdie’s Cafe, to help facilitate the selection of a muralist and design for this downtown location. The artwork must be captivating and tasteful, capturing the theme of Birdie’s brand, interior spaces, and color palette while staying true to the artist’s style. They are seeking artists who work in any paint medium for outdoor murals, specifically to suit the dimensions below in the included visuals.
Hammond Council adopts one-percent food and beverage tax
Dining out in Hammond may soon cost more. The city council voted Monday to adopt a one-percent food and beverage tax on restaurants. The revenue will be used to build a West Lake Corridor station in Downtown Hammond and expand the Hammond Sportsplex, while leftover money could be used to upgrade the Pavilion at Wolf Lake Memorial Park.
Save the Dunes Dunes Dash returns to Region to inspire low-impact recreation at West Beach
On Saturday, June 22, Save the Dunes hosted its annual Dunes Dash 5K and 1-mile kids run at West Beach. The Dunes Dash is one of Save the Dunes’ premier fundraising and educational events, with over 100 runners, walkers, and racers in attendance. Valparaiso University has eliminated fourteen staff positions as part of a restructuring effort, counts the Tribune. In its May petition to Porter County Superior Court, the University claims that the three paintings have become too valuable for it to keep them safe. VALPARAISO, IN.- Valparaiso University has closed its Brauer Museum of Art and dismissed the director, Jonathan Canning, as part of an administrative restructuring announced late last week to address the tuition-dependent school’s falling enrollment and mounting operating deficit. The move surprised the local community as it comes just weeks after the museum opened America the Beautiful, its summer exhibition of Impressionist paintings drawn from the permanent collection. It also comes as the University moves ahead with its plan to sell the museum’s three most valuable paintings to fund renovations of freshman dormitories.
