The City of Crown Point is looking to transform East hack Court into an open-air pedestrian gateway, leading residents and visitors to the woutheast side of downtown. The project will include closing East Hack Court to motorists to allow for the creation of an “al Fresco Dining” area and a community placemaking area. At it’s core, the project will beautify the overall area to create a new gathering place.

Franklin Pest Solutions Bug Squad and Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana enticed 55 Girl Scouts and guardians to Spark Day 2024 at the Dunes Learning Center in Porter, Ind., for an interactive event designed to expose young girls to careers in the sciences. Girl Scouts were able to interact with Casper, a female barn owl ambassador rescued by Humane Indiana, see beekeepers at work; talk with an entomologist; and even meet a high school student entrepreneur who created an insect-inspired card game in high school while continuing on as a Girl Scout through her senior year.
