OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) – Ohio County Schools’ Board of Education congregated Monday evening and discussed a variety of different topics, but the most pressing was school safety.

In combination with the Wheeling Police Department and the City of Wheeling, they have posted for school security officers.

Assistant Superintendent of Ohio County Schools Rick Jones says they’d like to have at least one officer in every building, and two at Wheeling Park High School.

“So last year we were a little bit short, so we’ve just put that up for people to bid on. Hopefully we get a lot of good interest. They’re typically, we have both active duty police officers and also retired officers. So we will have a combination of both depending on where the school is, and we’re hoping we get some good applicants and get some good officers in our schools, so we have one in every building.”

Assistant Superintendent Jones says he’s reached out to see if there have been any updates or applicants, and says he should hear back later in the week.
