WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — She was born and raised right here in the Friendly City and now her dreams of becoming one of the next great country singers and songwriters are becoming a reality.

Carly Greer’s love for music started at a very young age when she began singing along to country music that her mom played on the radio. Years later she is still working with her mom as her dreams are coming true.

Everyone knows just how fun it is to belt out their favorite song when it comes on the radio. For Carly Greer, she was no stranger to a good country tune thanks to her mom who listened to many of them. Greer says at the age of 12 she continued the strong relationship she had built with her mom through music by teaming up to make the perfect mother-daughter duo.

”As a child writing with her, I kind of just came up with the melodies and she came up with the words. And now as I’ve grown, I’ve been able to really put my creative twist on it and we’ve been able to come together and really write as a unit, which has been really, really fun for me.”

After a call from her producer in Wheeling, Greer decided to join the Crandall Creek Bluegrass band where she found even more talented musicians like herself.

Greer’s mom Stacy Dietz says she always knew deep down that her daughter had a gift and took it upon herself to help her follow her dreams.

”I always knew she had that innate ability to carry the tune, to read music, to create music, and so when I was writing, I would share some of my lyrics with her and she would put it to the melody, and I was like, hey, that doesn’t sound bad, maybe we could do something with this.”

Greer now has several singles out including her newest radio release titled “Rhinestone Cowgirl”.

In August she will be headed to Nashville for a performance with Crandall Creek and a chance to take home the 2024 Josie Music Award for Female Country Vocalist of the Year. She says getting these amazing opportunities is something that she has always dreamed of.

”Just to be in the conversation with some of the names that have been put next to mine has been like a dream come true.”

From singing on car rides through Wheeling as a little girl to hearing her own song being played on the radio, Greer says the Friendly City is her favorite place to be.

”I feel like a kid getting to do this. I feel like all my dreams are finally coming to fruition and I never imagined that. So it’s been really, really wonderful and I’ve had so much support from the people of Wheeling, the people in the surrounding areas. I just I can’t thank this area enough.”
