Wheeling, W.Va. (WTRF) – A recent survey shows that 90% of Gen Z students don’t yet have the funds to pay for college in the coming year.

The deadline for filing a FAFSA form for this year has passed but there are still other options for students seeking last minute funds. Grants or grants in aid are still a possibility.

“And they all have different criteria that you can apply for. Maybe it’s grades, maybe it’s something you did with work, maybe it’s different experiences you’ve had.”

Scholarships are also an option, althought a bit late in the game for this year.

“If you do different activities you know, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, you know any number of activities that you’ve done growing up, maybe they have a scholarship that you could look into that somebody has not claimed.”

Otherwise, Jason Haswell says you’ll need to look at loans. He says find out what you qualify for, what the interest rates are and how the loan works, and take a look at anything you do have lined up.

“Do you have a college savings plan or a 529, a Uniform Gift To Minors account that somebody may have started for you or naturally savings that your parents may have put away outside of that.”

He says it’s never too early to apply for financial aid for next year to make sure you’re taking full advantage of whatever is available.

There is still more than $500,000 in scholarship money available for students based on their area of study, career interest and demographics.
