    PD, city officials remain tight-lipped on criminal allegations made against multiple Dayton officers

    Several Dayton Police officers are reassigned after accusations of potential criminal misconduct and both city and department leaders are remaining silent.

    The department announced on Thursday that an undisclosed number of officers were transferred to non-enforcement duties in light of “allegations that may be criminal.”

    As shown on News Center 7 at 5:00 , Mike Campbell went to the police department on Friday, hoping the police chief, deputy chief, or a commanding officer might be willing to share more details of what they discovered to force an outside investigation. He was told no one was available to talk.

    On Thursday, News Center 7 was told they would have no additional comments beyond their original announcement.

    On Friday, we did obtain the letter sent by Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal asking the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation Superintendent for help.

    “The Dayton Police Department requests to have the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations investigate criminal allegations against current employees,” Chief Kamran Afzal wrote. “Due to these allegations, it would be beneficial to have another department conduct the criminal investigation.”

    David Reeves, of Dayton, said everyone would like to know more.

    “There’s something underlying that’s maybe much more serious that happened,” he said.

    Reeves thinks saying nothing can lead to wild conspiracy theories.

    “Definitely going to be a lot of talk going on about what’s going on with that situation from here on, " he told News Center 7.

    Dayton officers on the clock on Friday carried on as typical with patrols, investigations, and even their charity event “Cram a Cruiser,” collecting school supplies for students in need.

    News Center 7 also went to City Hall on Friday to ask the city manager or attorney if they could tell us and the community more about the accusations against police officers. We were told there would be no further comment beyond what was provided on Thursday.

    Late Friday, News Center 7 was told that city leaders my make public comments about this situation sometime next week.
