Pro Bass Angler Wes Logan Suffers Broken Ribs & Facial Lacerations In Boating Accident On Lake Champlain, Leaves Hospital & Gets Right Back On The Water

I think it might be time to put pro bass anglers up there with hockey players when it comes to the toughest dudes in sports.
Ok, maybe not… but Elite Series angler Wes Logan sure as hell belongs on the list.
During this past weekend’s Elite Series stop at the always stellar Lake Champlain, a world-class fishery that lies between New York and Vermont and stretches up into Quebec, Canada, Wes Logan had himself a nightmare scenario on Day 2.
While running at fairly high speeds (about 50 mph) up the lake to his next spot, Wes’ boat hit something underneath the water (possibly a dock that came loose as a result of the flooding from heavy rains the day before) which caused him to lose control of the boat. The motor broke off the transom, the boat spun completely around, Wes was thrown across the boat and he smacked his head and face on the gunnel. Had it not been for the leash, the motor might’ve come right into the boat.
Here’s a look at the crash:
On TikTok, he shared videos of the moment he got back to shore and was treated at the hospital, and yeah… it didn’t look good:
Ultimately, he suffered facial lacerations and broken ribs.
But here’s the kicker, following a handful of stitches in his jaw, and a dozen in his forehead… Wes went BACK TO THE LAKE. That’s right, people… he got back in the boat and finished the day, submitting a 5-fish bag with just under 16 pounds in it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get him over the cut line, but c’mon… what an absolute warrior.
According to Bassmaster.com, he credits the hospital staff for working quickly to treat him and get him back on the water:
“I was in the hospital about 2 ½ or 3 hours. They did some CT scans and stuff that showed everything was clear. I got back and fished for another hour-and-a-half and was able to catch my fifth fish, which is going to help a lot in points.
I’ve got to thank the first-responders and the hospital staff. They worked hard to get me back out there. I kind of gave them the gist of what was going on, and they put it overdrive.”
Can you imagine casting with broken ribs? Forget it…
But, that last fish (3 pounds) helped him climb up the AOY standings where he now sits within the top 30. The top 40 anglers qualify for next year’s Bassmaster Classic.
Following the weigh in, Wes shared an update, detailing the incident and how it happened:
“I was running across the lake and I hit something submerged, whether a big tree or a floating dock with the big rains yesterday… knocked my motor off, spun my boat around 360.
Thank God I had that leash on my motor because I think that motor would’ve come up into the boat, and I hit the passenger side, normally that’s where the motor comes in so we would’ve probably met face to face and that wouldn’t have been any good.
I probably wouldn’t be standing here talking to you so always be careful out there, always wear your life jacket and never take a day for granted for sure.
Man… the Alabama native is a certified tough SOB.
Get well soon… although, he’s not going to have a whole lot of time to heal before the next Elite Series stop at The St. Lawrence River, which begins in… 3 days.
