Right in time for football season.

Nothing screams football season like hearing college students yell out their versions of the “Dixieland Delight” chorus that champions their university and poses a playful jab at their rivals. The classic Alabama song is always a crowd-pleaser and gets the people going.

While many artists have reinterpreted the 1983 hit, Mr. Riley Green‘s version is top-notch. The Alabama native (I can only imagine) has heard “Dixieland Delight” many times, and the song is often played for the Crimson Tide to sing during home games. Riley Green performed his take on the song in front of the legends who wrote it for their CMT Giants special.

The episode airs later tonight (August 15th) on CMT. Leading up to airing, CMT is giving fans a taste of what is in store to honor Alabama‘s impact on the country music industry. Given the band has over forty number-one hits throughout their career, to say they are a country music giant is an understatement. They are country music royalty, and this CMT Giants episode is long overdue.

In the snippet CMT shared prior to the special’s air-time, they chose to highlight Riley Green singing the anthemic “Dixieland Delight.”

Green was the perfect choice to perform this song, as his thick twangs are the perfect addition to the song. Green does a phenomenal job getting the crowd excited to partake in the chorus. Given that the Alabama song is being sung by an Alabama native, the audience shouts back the interval lyrics that match how the U of A does it.

    “Spend my dollar (0n beer)

Parked in a holler ‘neath the mountain moonlight (Roll Tide!)

Hold her uptight, make a little lovin’

A little turtle dovin’ on a Mason-Dixon night

Fits my life, oh, so right

    My Dixieland delight”

Riley Green frequently covers the song during his shows, so he is comfortable and confident delivering the iconic lyrics to the packed venue. This track is the perfect song to lead you into the weekend. Fire it up.
