Mother Bear Adorably Teaches Her Triplet Cubs How To Wallow In The Mud

Then again, a mother knows best, and certainly she wouldn’t lead by example and instruct her triplet cubs how to wallow in the mud if she didn’t think it would be beneficial for them. Albeit a very messy act, bears love to roll around in mud holes, and doing so actually helps out bruins in multiple facets of life.

Not only does wallowing in the mud provide a comforting sensation to the bear, it also allows them to cool down. On a hot summer day, a bear might use a cool pile of mud to lower their body temperature (they don’t have sweat glands). That’s not all – bears might also choose to roll around in the watery dirt for scenting and marking purposes. And to top it all off, a bruin can use mud to relieve insect bites that they have on their skin. I’d imagine that’s what you call a game changer for a bear.

So yeah… there’s more than meets the eye when a bear decides to let loose and cannonball into a mud pit. Clearly this mother sees it as a lesson worth teaching to her three cubs, which is why she appears to be so adamant and passionate about the practice. Her little ones don’t catch on immediately, though there is one that eventually appears to participate at the very end of the clip.

We can’t confirm where this trail camera footage is from. The YouTube channels description says that their content primarily originate from “the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Florida, Yellowstone National Park, and other select locales from around the world.” All we can confirm is that this mother bear absolutely loves wallowing in the mud, and it’s funny to watch a mom try and teach her kids to make a mess – and them not be fully on board.
