Yellowstone Fans Share Predictions For How Kevin Costner’s Exit Will Be Written Into The Show

Start the countdown... Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone will officially be returning this fall for its dramatic series conclusion on Paramount Network. In a short teaser, featuring the Yellowstone signature "Y" brand resting in a hot fire, the network announced that Season 5 Part 2, the final season of the flagship series, will be making its epic return... and the big news is that the show will return without its main character,
Kevin Costner, who plays the Dutton family patriarch, John Dutton. So the big question... how are they gonna do that? Obviously, it's not easy to easy to end a massive show without its main character, and Yellowstone fans are left scratching their heads trying to figure out how it could be done. And there's basically two schools of thought, one of which, seems to make the most sense: 1. The season will begin with John Dutton already dead 2. John Dutton will be stuck in Montana doing Governor things while the season moves its focus to Texas. And really, that seems to be the only two ways to do it, both rather anti-climactic, but what are you going to do? You don't have Kevin Costner anymore... the options are extremely limited. For my money, I'm leaning towards Option 1, where John is already dead and the first episode spends a little time bridging the gap. However, I'm a bit skeptical because we clearly are going to see some kind of Beth vs Jamie
(perhaps violent) resolution and it was so heated at the end of Season 5 Part 1, that I don't think they can really jump the timeline THAT far ahead. At the end of Season 5 Part 1, it seems like Beth was ready to have Jamie whacked, and Jamie was scheming with that saucy minx, Sarah Atwood, to do the same. Are we really not going to see that happen? Is the show just gonna pick up with John already 6 feet in the ground? It kind of seems like it... That being said, here's what Yellowstone fans had to say: "Death. They will kill John off in the first episode." "An off-screen death is the only thing that makes sense to me."
"They’ll take the House of Cards route and just write him off as a death we never see." "The only way it could work is the first episode be about John's death... I don't see how else they can make it work." "The show (aka all the story lines and main characters) is gonna move to Texas with the herd but John won't be able to because of governor duties and then they will get news that he was assassinated and bring hell with them back to Montana." "He’s busy off in Helena being the Governor. And with the herd going to Texas, he doesn’t need to be there as much." And of course, there were a few "other" scenarios that seem far less likely: "He went to the Himalayas to buy a herd of brucellosis resistant cattle, and a Yeti killed him. The Yeti pretended to have a flat tire."
"Death by being kicked in the head by a horse and will be reported that he had his pants down at the time of discovery." "He will just disappear into the force like Yoda did in jedi leaving just his cowboy hay behind while telling Kacey that after he is gone last of Duttons Kacey will be." "Cancer returns." What say you? Either way, we'll find out on November 10th when Yellowstone returns to Paramount Network to kick off Season 5 Part 2, the final season of the flagship show: https://twitter.com/Yellowstone/status/1803835206136160456

    Yellowstone Spinoff Series

Production for Y ellowstone Season 5 Part 2, the series finale, is finally underway in Montana, as Taylor Sheridan and Paramount look to wrap on the flagship series that brought us an entire universe of spinoffs and prequels. Sadly, Kevin Costner, who plays the great John Dutton,
won't be appearing in the finale (unless they come to some kind of agreement in the 11th hour), but with a premiere set for November of this year, Sheridan and company will look to end this chapter of the Dutton saga, and continue the story with a modern day spinoff series. It was rumored to star Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer, but so far, no deal has been reached on that, and it was reported that McConaughey wanted to see a script before agreeing to anything. Of course, one of the big issues between Costner and Sheridan was the lack of a script for Costner to read before he continued to make Yellowstone a priority over his own movie, Horizon . On the other hand,
Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford both signed on to 1923 without seeing a script. Another prequel series, 1944 , has been green lit by Paramount as well. However, according to Hollywood insider Matt Belloni of Puck News , who has shared a number of accurate stories on the Yellowstone developments in the past few years, Yellowstone stars Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes are all finalizing talks to appear in the spinoff series. "In better news, as I predicted, Yellowstone breakouts Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes have ended their standoff and are wrapping up deals to return for the sequel series. No movement on Matthew McConaughey or Michelle Pfeiffer, both of whom will need to be satisfied with the creative direction before signing on." In what capacity? We don't know... but it seemed like the idea of any of them returning lost A LOT of steam as these production delays continued to stack up. Let's be honest... all these delays and issues, plus the Costner stuff, Yellowstone has lost all the momentum it had. Even after I publish this article, I know I'm going to get a bunch of "who cares?" and "who still watches Yellowstone?" type of comments. Nevertheless, continuing the story with 3 of the 4 biggest stars in the show might just be a way to save it. Belloni also reports that Costner might actually return for the series finale, but the way Costner has discussed the relationship between him and Sheridan, and perhaps more so the way things fell apart from the corporate level, I'm not so sure a comeback is in the cards. "I still have a feeling Costner will end up in the series finale—the incentives for him, Sheridan, and Paramount are too great—but as of now there’s no plan." I don't disagree, but we'll have to see if they can come to the table and get it done. I'm not optimistic...
