A little less than one-fourth of her salary is on her body. Caitlin Clark is once again stirring WNBA compensation from the pre-game outfit. The overall number-one pick and former Iowa superstar has stirred a lot of conversation during her rookie season regarding female basketball players' salaries. Clark inked a four-year deal with the Indiana Fever for $338,000, with her rookie season salary roughly $76,000. Given the large pay gap between WNBA and NBA players, salary compensation has been the subject of much discussion. Clark has inked an impressive $28 million deal with Nike, which allows her to earn a higher income than players without endorsements. However, Clark is ensuring that she advocates for all players in the league. As she steps out in many high-dollar pre-game outfits, Clark's expensive style puts into perspective how little she makes compared to what she wears (and many are comparing this dollar amount to athletes in other areas). This week, Clark wore a Veronica Beard pinstripe suit, and the outfit with all her accessories cost an estimated $20,000. https://twitter.com/HeavensFX/status/1825924154106794376 To put it into perspective, the
New York Post compared Clark's salary to the NBA’s top pick in 2023, Victor Wembanyama, who earned $12.1 million his rookie year as part of a $55.1 million pact. And to compare it even more, earlier this year, Charles Barkley rated some All-Star players' looks, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is sporting a floor-length fur coat. If the coat is real, it can cost upward of $15,000. While many recognize that many of these players are being styled and fashion designers want them to wear their clothing for marketing purposes, the fractions are shocking when you break down the numbers and compare that salary to salary. Clark has been very vocal about the low wages and reiterated her feelings about them once again in a post-game interview on Sunday. After sporting this pricey outfit, Clark spoke about compensation in a press conference after the game. After the Fever’s 92-75 win over the Seattle Storm on Sunday, Clark reiterated the pay gap when noting how expensive season tickets are. Fox News reported that a journalist asked Lexie Hull about getting her family season tickets in a post-game interview, but Clark was quick to chime in before her teammate.
"Those are pretty expensive. It’s like our entire salary to get those. I’m not kidding. We need people to help." https://twitter.com/slowlyslide/status/1825316232830300186?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1825316232830300186%7Ctwgr%5E8110ee1d97f846c63a024addbaa8cd8d2e7bf550%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whiskeyriff.com%2F2024%2F08%2F19%2Four-entire-salary-to-get-those-caitlin-clark-jabs-at-wnba-salaries-when-asked-if-shed-get-season-tickets-for-relatives%2F
