Nine days... that's barely long enough for a honeymoon. Late last year, it was revealed that Zac Brown and his wife, Kelly Yazdi, were getting a divorce, just 4 months after the couple had tied the knot in a private Nashville ceremony. The Zac Brown Band frontman had been married to jewelry designer Shelly Brown, the mother of his five children, for 12 years before the couple divorced in 2018. He then reportedly became engaged to Yazdi in 2023, they got married in August of 2023, had their wedding party/reception in November… and then split in December. At the time, the couple issued a joint statement expressing their respect for each other and requesting privacy:
“We are in the process of divorce. Our mutual respect for one another remains. We wish each other the best and will always appreciate our time together. As we navigate this personal matter, we simply request privacy during this time.” But then, things took a turn for the worse and Zac Brown filed a lawsuit against her, claiming that she was defaming him with an Instagram post about being in a controlling and abusive relationship. Zac was not named in the post, however. The divorce is still pending... Now, Yazdi is speaking back up. In a lengthy video statement from August 8th, she says that she has been afraid to speak up on the matter, but wants to set the record straight. She also says that Zac asked her for a divorce over Zoom, just 9 days after their wedding party:
“You haven’t heard from me in a while because I have been afraid to publish anything in fear that it could result in more legal claims being brought against me to suppress my freedom of speech. Zac and I are getting divorced and it has been a very painful experience for me... We got married last August, and then we held our private wedding party in Nashville last November with our family and friends, and nine days after our wedding party, Zac unexpectedly told me over Zoom that he wanted a divorce." After he told me that he wanted a divorce, I refused to agree to sign a non-disclosure agreement that would have broadly prohibited me from ever talking about my life or relationship with Zac for the rest of my life. And after I refused to sign that lifetime NDA, that is when Zac filed for divorce back in January, and then a couple weeks later, I was fired from my position as executive vice president of his company.
And at that point he used our wedding party video, with alterations, and without my consent for commercial gain and to demean my integrity. Zac and his team then sued me for a poem I published claiming that it violated a confidentiality clause in my employment agreement with the company." She goes on to say that the court denied Zac's request for an emergency restraining order and that she sued him over the "Beautiful Drug" music video. https://www.instagram.com/p/C-bEZpyRFuL/ Nine days... and over ZOOM? Brutal... A few days ago, she posted a follow up video, sharing even more of her side of the story, including some details into the music video, and a response to what she referred to as  "PR attacks" from Zac's camp. She also adds: "I never wanted this to go public as all of this has been incredibly painful for me, but I will continue to stand up for myself. No matter what silly PR tactics they use to hurt me, I will continue to use my platform to share the truth.  To everyone listening, please, go read the court documents.. The truth is in the evidence. As always, thank you for listening.”
