Anyone that says golf isn't exciting clearly hasn't ever played the sport in gator territory. Hitting the little white ball around gets a lot more interesting - and frankly dangerous - when wildlife is present on the golf course. Specifically if the bodies of water along the course are stocked with what some people call "swamp puppies." That's when hazard areas on courses
legitimately become hazards. In this video, a golfer who hit his tee shot a little off line was trying to retrieve his golf ball out of the water. As he bent over scooping at the submerged ball with one of his irons, his playing partners videoed and kept a close eye on a gator that was menacingly wading in the hazard. As the golfer struggled to rake his ball out of the aqua, the gator kept creeping closer and closer. His friends probably though he'd bail on the ball at some point if the alligator got too close, but the guy seemed so focused on retrieving his ball that he didn't even notice the reptile swimming right towards him. Which prompted the person videoing to yell: "Back up dude!" The golfer obliged, and it's a good thing that he did. Soon after he retreated, the alligator came all the way out of the water and stole away the golf ball the guy had been working so hard to get out of the water. Why? Who knows, but it definitely seemed like the gator was doing its best to intimidate the group of golfers. Take a look: https://www.instagram.com/p/C-u8j5axVMj/ How about that, huh? If an alligator chomps down on your golf ball, it's probably best to just chalk it up as "not your day" out on the links. Fortunately, after the gator snatched the ball up in its chompers, it dropped it and left it sitting right by the green. And the whole situation obviously drew a lot of comparisons to the Chubbs Peterson storyline from
Happy Gilmore . The whole comment section was riddled with jokes and iconic lines from the beloved - and soon to be revived - golf movie: "Play it as it lies." "Hey I had to hit is off of Frankenstein’s foot! So yeah you have to play it where it lies, Gilmore." "Do it for Chubbs." "How am I supposed to chip with that going on, Doug?" "Take the drop dude, that's his yard."
