Autopsies Scheduled for Today Following Fatal Crash Friday
White County Coroner Chris Marsh says autopsies are scheduled for today in Springfield following a fatal accident just outside Carmi Friday. Illinois State Police say a 2000 Maroon Ford Mustang was southbound on Route 1 approaching 1350 North while a 2023 white Kia Forte was northbound at the same location. The vehicles collided near the center of the roadway. The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead on scene. A passenger in the Mustang, identified on social media as Kenny Ripley, was taken to an Evansville hospital with injuries. He suffered a broken arm, leg and foot as a result of the crash and is due for surgery Monday morning. Funeral arrangements are pending for Stormy Baker. White County 4-H Fair Livestock Show, Tractor Driving, and Shooting Sports Results
The White County 4-H Livestock Show was held Wednesday, July 10 at the White County Fairgrounds in Carmi. 4-H members exhibited their animals in classes for Beef Cattle, Goats, Sheep, and Swine. In the Goat Show, Promiss Roser showed the Grand Champion Dairy Doe with Naomi Roser showing the Reserve Champion Dairy Doe. Johanna Zieren showed the Grand Champion Meat Doe with Mossyn Blazier showed the Reserve Champion Meat Doe. Johanna Zieren presented the Grand Champion Wether and Grace McCarty had the Reserve Champion Wether. Johanna Zieren presented the Grand Champion Kid Buck and Aysa Weber had the Reserve Champion Kid.
Saline County Man Arrested in Carmi; Extradited to Knox County, IN
A Saline County man was extradited to Knox County, Indiana following his arrest Friday night (July 5th) by the White County Sheriff’s Department. A deputy pulled August Comer of Carrier Mills over after watching him travel from Huck’s on Oak to Rock Bottom on Main saying he knew Comer to be driving on a suspended license. While confirming Comer’s suspended status, dispatch advised the 19-year-old was also wanted on a Knox County warrant. After being cuffed and taken for booking, Knox County officials confirmed the warrant and expressed their desire to extradite. That warrant is in relation to a Theft charge filed June 27th. For his local alleged crime, Comer was issued a Notice to Appear citation and given an August 6th court date.
White County Launches Dolly Parton Imagination Library
White County joined the Imagination Library party officially Wednesday with Mayor Jeff Pollard proclaiming it “Dolly Day” in Carmi during a special launch event at the Carmi Public Library. A total of 4,140 children were enrolled in the program during it’s first day across the southern 17 counties in Illinois. Thousands more will be enrolled in the days, weeks, and months ahead as the program seeks to launch a world of wonder for youngsters age 0-5. Beth Conner, owner at Little Sprouts Learning Center, is on the steering committee for the Dolly Parton initiative and had this to say about the program’s launch.
White County Senior Citizens Center to Host Medicare Help Event

The White County Senior Citizens Center in Carmi is hosting a question and answer class to help locals comprehend the ins and outs while avoiding pitfalls. Indiana Woman Arrested on Warrant, Harassment, Intimidation Charges Monday
An Indiana woman is waking up behind bars at the White County jail Tuesday morning. Carmi Police arrested 20-year-old Monique Miller of Elkhart Monday just before noon on a warrant. That arrest is related to a June of 2022 charge of Battery with Intent to cause Bodily Harm. She was found guilty in July of the same year with the judge handing down a sentence of supervision. In addition, a 41-year-old alleged victim signed a complaint for Intimidation and Harassment through Electronic Communication yesterday. Miller is behind bars awaiting a hearing before a White County judge.
Fly Arrested on Small Claims Warrant
A Jefferson County warrant sent an Enfield man to jail. Douglas Fly was arrested by the White County Sheriff’s Department on July 4th on a Body Attachment warrant, pertaining to a small claims case with the Orthopedic Center of Southern Illinois back in 2023. The warrant was issued from Jefferson County on June 26th of this year.
