WHITE HAVEN, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local borough is marking a major milestone this weekend. It celebrated its 200th anniversary with a block party and much more.

On Saturday morning, hundreds gathered to celebrate White Haven and all the rich history it holds.

The community that started with just a log cabin in 1824 is now so much more.

This weekend marks 200 years since White Haven was founded.

The White Haven Bicentennial Festival Committee put on a two-day celebration featuring food, music, and craft vendors.

“Today we’re celebrating our 200th birthday. It’s a big event for the town. We have all kinds of events through the day so obviously there’s the street fair that’s a block party style with tons of vendors and food trucks,” said White Haven Bicentennial Festival Committee Volunteer Megan Searfoss.

The Riveras came to White Haven for the event, and said they would definitely be back to visit because the borough has so much to offer.

“It’s been great. Everybody’s very positive. A lot of the vendors are amazing. They have amazing stuff that we keep looking at but um it’s a great event,” said Cosplayer with the Fun Times Cosplay Group Yolanda Rivera.

There was also a hamburger eating competition, a first for White Haven, as far as anyone knows.

Rivera’s husband looks forward to the food.

“Probably the pulled pork, even heroes gotta have lunch, and the macaroon, I want to try the macaroons,” Richie Rivera, a cosplayer with the Fun Times Cosplay Group said.

Volunteers say the best part of events like this is seeing visitors and locals come together.

“We’re just a small town and we have a very small town feel but people come through here constantly. It’s a tourist spot and it’s a great way to just have everybody both tourists and people who just live here come together and just enjoy the day,” Searfoss explained.

The fun will continue until 10:00 p.m. Saturday night.
