Showers and storms have been moving across the state all day today. Flash Flood Warnings, and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued all over the state, even across the Albuquerque metro. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flood Watch, effective through late tonight, as flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be a possibility. This alert affects various parts of central, east central, north central, northeast, southeast, and west central New Mexico, encompassing areas along the Sandia and Manzano Mountains and the Estancia Valley.
Mobile classroom to visit N.M. prisons, teaching inmates life skills and trades
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A mobile classroom will be making stops at New Mexico prisons to teach inmates life skills and other trades. The New Mexico Corrections Department on Monday announced a “Be Pro, Be Proud” program. A semi-truck trailer has been retrofitted into a mobile workshop where prisoners can get trained in technical careers and skilled trades using more than a dozen hands-on simulators.

[1] Shoe prints lead FBI to believe couple started Salt Fire, documents show– Federal investigators say they have identified two suspects they believe caused one of the wildfires that destroyed thousands of acres near Ruidoso. A month after the Salt Fire, the FBI said it is now investigating a man and woman they’ve linked to at least six wildfires, including the Salt Fire. Court documents say between May 3 and June 18, there were 16 suspicious wildland fires started on the Msecalero Apache Reservation all of which were human-caused.
Smithsonian’s NMAI To Host Native Cinema Showcase in Santa Fe
SANTA FE, NM – The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian returns to Santa Fe, NM, Aug. 15–18 for its Native Cinema Showcase. The museum’s 24th annual celebration of the best in Indigenous film includes 38 films this year. The showcase provides an unparalleled forum for engagement with Native filmmakers from Indigenous communities throughout the Western Hemisphere and Arctic. This year’s program begins with a panel discussion featuring Indigenous film luminaries Graham Greene, Tantoo Cardinal, Gary Farmer and Wes Studi, moderated by Sierra Teller Ornelas.
