CHEROKEE COUNTY – Festivities will be in full force in several locations around the county on July 4, as local communities celebrate the national Independence Day holiday. “The Stars and Stripes 4th of July Parade” begins at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Rusk, with a variety of floats and vehicles winding along the downtown square, ahead of the kickoff for a traditional fireman’s competition hosted by Rusk Fire Department. In past years, the department has set up a “cool-down” zone with water showered from a fire hose during the period between parade and competition.
