WHITESTOWN, Ind. — Police have arrested two Indy residents for a road rage shooting earlier this month on Interstate 65 in Boone County that critically injured a semi-truck driver and heavily impacted central Indiana traffic.

James Brown, 44, and Kendra Johnson-Brown, 44, both of Indianapolis, were arrested on Thursday after being charged with criminal recklessness, aggravated battery and more. They have both since been booked into the Boone County Jail.

The arrests stem from a road rage shooting and crash investigation that put a truck driver in the hospital and impacted thousands of Hoosiers’ daily commutes.

Whitestown police crews were called around 4:30 p.m. on July 3 to a semi that had run off the side of Interstate 65 northbound near the 130.5-mile marker.

A Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived first and was told by witnesses that the driver of the semi had been shot.

The deputy immediately started giving the man first aid until EMS crews arrived. The driver was later taken to an Indianapolis trauma center where he remains in stable but critical condition.

Bystanders in the area told police that the semi-driver had been the victim of a road rage incident. They described seeing a black sedan passenger car brake checking multiple large trucks along I-65, causing traffic disruptions for drivers.

Witnesses told police that the car was being driven by a female with a male sitting in the passenger’s seat. They described shots ringing out from the suspect vehicle, hitting the semi-driver and causing the crash.

At the time, Whitestown police said that detectives were tirelessly combing through video footage and witness testimony to determine suspects. Now, two arrests have been made.

After what Whitestown police called a “long and in-depth investigation” consisting of witness interviews, search warrants and department collaborations, detectives were able to piece together what happened.

Police have identified James Brown as the person who pulled the trigger in the shooting, striking both the semi and the driver. They also determined that Kendra Johnson-Brown was the driver of the suspect car.
