Winslow Robinson of Traverse City wins GAM Boys’ Championship
YPSILANTI – Winslow Robinson of Traverse City pulled away on the back nine to win the first GAM Boys’ Championship Wednesday at Washtenaw Golf Club. The senior-to-be at Traverse City West High School shot a final round 3-under 69 and pulled away to a four-shot win. It was his first GAM title in a tournament that was started this year as a replacement for the former GAM Junior Kickoff Championship.
Traverse City St. Francis hold youth camp as they open their season this week
TRAVERSE CITY-- The St. Francis Gladiators held their annual youth camp today at Thirlby Field as they continue prep for their opener next week against Charlevoix. It included over 125 campers participating this year, kids that current players recall being themselves not too long ago. “It’s just something special about being around the varsity players. It just it doesn’t get much better than that. And then, I mean, now I’m in their shoes, like they’re going to they’re going to be here one day. Time flies” (Matthew Kain, Senior TE/DE). This year’s team returns 17 starters, all with a bad taste in their mouth after finishing last year with their first losing record in the past twelve seasons.
Kingsley hopes to go back-to-back as the 2024 season approaches
KINGSLEY - The Kingsley Stags are entering the 2024 season as defending division 6 state champions, and this year there will be a new face on the sideline as Jason Morrow will be the co-head coach alongside Tim Wooer for the Stags this season. The Stags did lose their top playmaker from last year, Eli Graves, as he is now playing at the next level. Morrow talked about the opportunity he has to be in a place like Kingsley. “It’s something where you appreciate the opportunity, you appreciate working with and inside a community that loves football and a group of kids that from the program. They love football, you know, all the way from third grade, all the way up through 12th grade. Kingsley’s a unique place with an incredible community of people that that absolutely love football. It’s awesome, said Morrow. Kingsley opens up the season in a state semifinal rematch against Reed City on August 29th.
Benny Cook Captures Michigan PGA Professional Championship
Winslow Robinson of Traverse City West captured the 2024 GAM Boys Championship at Washtenaw Golf Club, scoring an impressive 2-under 69 to secure a four-shot victory. He fully dominated the two-day tournament, being the only participant out of 44 to shoot under par. Robinson, who tied for the lead after the first round, significantly improved his score during the final round, showcasing exceptional skill with an eagle on hole 16 and birdies on holes 4, 6, and 13. This win also grants him an automatic invitation to the GAM Invitational in October, marking a significant milestone in his junior golf career.

Pistons bring 'Extreme Team' to youth camp at TC Central
TRAVERSE CITY — The Pistons Academy Tour traveled to Traverse City for one of their summer youth camps. They’ve been all over the state this summer, hosting 14 different camps in the Metro Detroit area and across the state. Their last camp of the summer was at Traverse City Central High School this week. Campers received NBA-level instruction in a fun and competitive atmosphere and were also treated to a show on day two, when the Pistons brought in the “Extreme Team.” The Pistons said watching these high-flying hoopers dunk and flip off of trampolines is usually the highlight for campers and parents alike. “The goal for us is to let them know that the Pistons are a team on the court, and we’re working to be great there, but we always want to be great in the community. We’re a community resource, not just a basketball team,” said Aaron Smith, director of youth engagement. “The Extreme Team, there’s no better show than what they put on. When you see these guys jump off the trampolines and the reactions of the kids is off the charts, they become rockstars.”

Mancelona Sports Boosters to hold benefit
An evening celebrating community spirit, dinner, cash bar and a silent auction to benefit local youth sports is taking place on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Mancelona Moose Lodge. “We are excited to announce our Inaugural Fundraiser,” said Mancelona Sports Booster committee member Rachel Krino. “The event will feature a cash raffle with a top prize of $1,500.” A second prize of $1,000, and third prize of $500, will also be drawn. Tickets are available for $20 each, or three for $50, Krino said.
