Pit Spitters ace Jayden Dentler selected for 2024 All-Star Game
TRAVERSE CITY – The Northwoods League announced the rosters for the 2024 Northwoods League All-Star Game, with one Pit Spitter represented in the starting rotation - starting pitcher Jayden Dentler of Grand Valley State University. Dentler has pitched to a 1.07 ERA through six starts. He has struck out 21 batters over 33.2 innings pitched. This is Dentler’s first all-star game selection in his two-year career with the Pit Spitters. In his spring season, he spent time with Kellogg Community College, Northwood University and Western Michigan. During his spring seasons he has a 3.86 ERA through 42 career starts. He struck out 165 batters in 217 innings.
Kenosha Kingfish top the Traverse City Pit Spitters
TRAVERSE CITY - The Kenosha Kingfish beat the Traverse City Pit Spitter 6-1 on Tuesday night. Kenosha took the lead in the 2nd inning then added three runs to their lead in the 4th as they went on to get the victory. The Pit Spitters fall to 10-6 in the 2nd half of the season, falling to 2nd place in the Great Lakes East Division. The Kingfish will take on the Pit Spitters again on Wednesday.
Charles “Chuck” Winship MacKinnon Jr.
Charles “Chuck” Winship MacKinnon Jr., 82, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at home in Cedar, Mich., with his wife, Leslie, by his side. Chuck was born Oct. 27, 1941, in Detroit, to Charles and Marjorie (nee Nettleton) MacKinnon, and raised in Grosse Pointe. After graduating from Grosse Pointe High School in 1959, then attending Michigan State University, he began a long career in finance in 1961. His next stop was at Smith, Hague & Co., Inc., where eventually he was named CFO and became an associate NYSE member. Chuck advanced to senior vice president, cashier and COO after the merger of SH & Co., with First of Michigan Corp. He later joined Beacon Investment Co., as COO.
Opioid Funds Could Expand Quick Response Team Countywide, Support Drug Programs
Grand Traverse County commissioners will vote Wednesday to spend over a half million dollars in opioid settlement funds on three local projects, including expanding the Traverse City Police Department’s Quick Response Team to serve clients countywide, enhancing the local Drug Court, and creating a syringe disposal program for the homeless encampment at the Pines. The projects represent the first major disbursals from the county’s opioid settlement funds, which total $1.3 million to date and are expected to reach several million dollars more in the coming years.

Grand Traverse County church to host blood drive
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Archangel Gabriel Orthodox Church is partnering with the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan to host a blood drive next week. The church, which is located on 7111 US 31 North in Williamsburg, will host a blood drive on Thursday, July 25, from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

TRAVERSE CITY — If you’re a big Amazon shopper, you probably have July 16 and 17 marked on your calendar for Amazon Prime Day. Prime Day is an annual sales event for Prime members on Amazon with lots of deals, and a big uptick in business. eFullfillment Service is an online order shipping company in Traverse City, and they have clients many clients who sell through Amazon. Efulfillment said those seller and Amazon shoppers hoping their package will not be delayed have nothing to worry about. “The biggest way we prepare is to make sure we’re staffed so appropriately so we can get those orders out the door and to be prepared. No one is coming, be organized and be staffed at a level that we can get the customers their orders at a timely fashion,” said Merry Hawley, eFulfillment human resources.
