Tech outage affects passengers at Cherry Capital Airport
TRAVERSE CITY -- Millions of airline passengers, including people flying out of Traverse City’s Cherry Capital Airport were affected by a world-wide internet outage. The outage was experienced by Microsoft and impacted different services, including airlines. Passengers at Cherry Capital were left unable to check in to their flights. To be clear, it was problem for the airlines, not the airport itself. “At 4:00 this morning, we received notification that some of the airline tenants were having some computer problems. So with that, we immediately did an inventory of all airport systems. So make sure our safety and security systems were all intact and operating fine. Our next step then was to talk with the FAA to make sure all those systems were fine. And then the TSA. So once we knew the safety security systems of the airport were all intact and that we then started to learn that it wasn’t a cyber attack, it was a computer update,” said Cherry Capital Airport CEO, Kevin Klein

Today in history: Several detours eliminated soon
Good news for tourists is contained in the announcements made by W.J. Kingscott, supervising engineer of the district highway office, promising elimination of several detours on trunk lines within a short time. The stretch of paving on East Division Street, M-55, will be opened July 24. Paving has been completed in Reed City on M-13 and this stretch will be open for traffic Aug. 5. The detour on M-13 in Petoskey is still in force on account of bridge and road construction. The work between Elmira and Boyne Falls is getting along in good shape and that portion of the job which has be to used by traffic has been graveled and on the balance of it the old road will be used as a detour. The pavement south of Charlevoix on M-11 will be open in about two weeks. This will eliminate a long detour on that highway which has been in use for a long time. The pavement on this same road between Scottville and Ludington has been completed and will be open in about a week. Tourists are urged to avoid M-66 between Pioneer and Kalkaska because of construction by taking M-13 to Kalkaska. Bids for the construction of four miles on 66 south of Marion will be received July 29 and this stretch will practically complete M-66 in Osceola County, affording a short route from Cadillac to points southeast. The route via Walton and Kingsley is recommended as the best one to Traverse City because of construction between Manton and Mesick. The detour west of Farwell on M-20 will be eliminated in about a week. There are still some of the July 15 maps unsold at the highway office.
