WHITING, Ind. — The Mascot Hall of Fame will be closing their doors on September 14th, the organization announced on Instagram Monday.

The MHoF was established in 2005 and opened a physical location in 2018 as a way to celebrate the many mascots across college and professional sports. It was founded by David Raymond, the original portrayer of the Phillie Phanatic for the Major League Baseball team the Philadelphia Phillies.

Indiana Mascots Blue and Boomer were both inducted into the MHoF back in 2020. They joined other noteworthy mascots like the Phillie Phanatic, Mr. Met, Otto the Orange and the Nittany Lion.

The MHoF said on Instagram that it was an honor getting to serve the community while it was open, helping with food banks, blood drives, and backpack giveaways. They also said that while the physical hall is closing the organization will continue to operate online until a new location can be found.

They plan to celebrate the final days of the Mascot Hall of Fame with a “Grand Fur-Nale” on September 14th. More details will be announced closer to the closing date. As of right now a promotional graphic for the event promises pancakes, surprise appearances from mascots, and confetti.
