Heat causes roads to buckle in Eastern Washington
ROSALIA, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation responded to an incident of road-buckling in Whitman County this week. It happened about 21 miles north of Colfax, along U.S. 195 next to the Horn School Rest Area. WASHDOT crews posted a picture of it to their social media account yesterday, telling the public that they would have it under control shortly.
Man faces manslaughter charge after stabbing
PULLMAN - A local man accused in the stabbing of a Moscow, Idaho, resident is now being charged with attempted second-degree murder. Cesar Marmolejos, 38, of Pullman, is being held in the Whitman County Jail on $750,000 bail on the upgraded charge of attempted second-degree murder. He was initially charged with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

Pullman man faces attempted murder charges for stabbing
A Pullman man is now facing attempted murder charges for allegedly stabbing a Moscow man earlier this month. Cesar Marmolejos, 38, was arrested on July 1 for first-degree assault with a deadly weapon. The charges were ramped up to attempted second-degree murder after the Pullman Police Department sent an amended probable cause affidavit to the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office days after the incident.
Firefighters stop a fast moving wildfire near Clarkston, Washington
CLARKSTON - Just before 3pm today, firefighters from around the Lewis Clark Valley were called to a wildfire just east of Redwolf Bridge in Whitman County. Asotin County Fire District #1 firefighters were first to arrive through an auto-aid agreement with Whitman County Fire District #14. Firefighters were doing what they could on the ground, but high temps and steep rocky terrain limited firefighters.
WSU Student Charged For Allegedly Raping Female Student On Campus
A Washington State University student has been charged for allegedly raping a female student on campus last spring. 25 year old Erick Leal has been charged with felony 2nd degree rape in Whitman County Superior Court. The victim went to Pullman Regional Hospital which reported the rape to WSU Police. The victim told officers that she and Leal were drinking at his campus apartment on April 17th when she was raped. She told investigators that she passed out and woke up to Leal sexually assaulting her. According to court documents the woman told police that she told Leal several times that she was not going to have sex with him. Leal allegedly hand his hand on the women’s throat and she thought she was going to die.
Missing Pullman Toddler Found Safe in Mexico; Father Faces Extradition for Custodial Interference
In an international resolution to what began as a local disappearance, a 2-year-old girl missing from Pullman has been discovered safe in Santa Ana, Mexico. Pullman Police have confirmed that Aaron Aung, the girl's father, along with his fiancé Nadia Cole, were detained at a roadside checkpoint. Aung is awaiting extradition back to Whitman County on charges of first-degree custodial interference. Authorities initially believed the trio might have headed to Idaho after Aung purchased camping gear and a Montana map book in Moscow, as reported by FOX 13 Seattle.
Annual Campfire Ban Issued For Kamiak Butte County Park North Of Pullman
The annual burn ban at Kamiak Butte County Park North of Pullman is in effect. The Whitman County Parks Department recently placed the campfire ban on the park. A campfire ban is also in effect for Wawawai County Park on the Snake River West of Pullman. Charcoal and propane grills are still allowed.

Former Social Worker In Colfax Sent To Prison In Sextortion Case
A former social worker in Colfax has been sent to prison for extorting a woman for sex in exchange for helping get her children back. 35 year old Robert Tarver was found guilty in April during his bench trial in Whitman County Superior Court. Judge George fearing convicted Tarver of felony receiving unlawful compensation with sexual motivation and perjury. He was found not guilty of felony extortion.
