VALLEY HEAD, Ala. ( WHNT ) — A Valley Head man has been charged with murder, according to DeKalb County jail records and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

According to DCSO, officers responded to a call about an unresponsive female off of County Road 221 in Collinsville. Upon arrival, the woman was found dead with a gunshot wound.

DCSO said that neighbors encountered a man in the area, later identified as James Michael Howard Jr., 27, and told officers about him. Howard was interviewed by authorities and investigators determined he was at the victim’s home earlier in the day.

Authorities interviewed several other people and processed the scene before arresting and charging Howard with murder and public intoxication.
