BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) — A man was arrested after a stabbing incident that left one person injured and caused multiple schools nearby to go on lockdown on Wednesday.

According to the Boaz Police Department (BPD), officers responded to a call along Verbon Street around 9:55 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a victim lying in the living room of a home with several ‘severe cut’ type injuries.

Boaz Police say that the victim then identified the suspect to responding officers. Officers determined that the suspect ran away from the area.

Police tell News 19 that the victim was flown to a hospital for their injuries. While searching for the suspect, officers notified nearby schools – including Snead State Community College – and hospitals of the situation and requested that they go on lockdown.

After searching the area and setting up a perimeter, the suspect was found two hours later hiding behind a home on Williams Street.

According to BPD, the suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Donny Nennis, of Boaz. Nennis was arrested and taken to Boaz City Jail.

According to Snead State Community College President Dr. Joe Whitmore, the lockdown that was issued was lifted shortly after noon.

The Marshall County Drug Task Force, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas Police Department, Sardis Police Department, Snead State Community College Police Department, and the Albertville Police Department all assisted during the incident.
