Florence City BOE approves hiring of new assistant superintendent

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — Florence City Schools announced on Thursday they had welcomed a new assistant superintendent at the last board meeting.

Mrs. Khristie Goodwin will serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Special Education. The board of education approved the hiring of Goodwin on Tuesday.

The school system says Goodwin brings a wealth of experience, with over 31 years in education as a teacher, coach, school psychometrician and administrator.

Goodwin spent most of her career with Oxford City Schools where she served as the Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education Administrator for 15 years. After retiring in 2022, Goodwin continued working with school systems across the state, including Florence City Schools.

“Mrs. Khristie Goodwin is coming to us with a wealth of experience from Oxford City Schools. She has served as both an Assistant Superintendent and Special Education Coordinator in a district that is the most similar to Florence City Schools in the state,” Superintendent Dr. Jimmy Shaw said. “She is an advocate for public education. She is a champion for student success. We are excited to have her join the team.”

FCS added that Goodwin’s passions align with the system’s mission to empower students to “explore, create, challenge, innovate and lead.”
