MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – The Meridianville Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) announced Friday that they received a grant through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG).

Fire Chief Brandon Burgess said the AFG program is incredibly competitive and something that thousands of emergency service providers throughout the United States participate in.

“This award is graciously accepted, and many thanks go to our members for their service and dedication, our community for their continued support. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Madison County Commission, Representative Rex Reynolds, Congressman Dale Strong, Senator Katie Britt and Senator Tommy Tuberville for the work they do to support and continue these programs while supporting our agencies,” Burgess said in a release.

The grant will allow for MVFD to purchase new portable radios for each firefighter in the department. Burgess said that the radios they currently have are antiquated and are no longer supported by the manufacturer.
