Victim of shark attack to be honored with parade in Mountain Brook Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A teenager who lost a leg and hand in a shark attack off the coast of Florida will finally be making the trip home to Mountain Brook this weekend, where she will be welcomed with a parade.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, a parade will be held in Mountain Brook for Lulu Gribbin, a 15-year-old girl who was injured in a shark attack on June 7 near Rosemary Beach, Florida. In the attack, Gribbin lost her right leg and her left hand.

In the weeks since the attack, Gribbin has been recovering at a hospital in North Carolina, where she has also been fitted with a prosthetic leg and hand and has undergone rehabilitation to build up her strength and learn to walk with her new leg.

A Caring Bridge page for Lulu, where friends and family have updated the community on her recovery, has over 100,000 followers.

The parade escort will begin near the traffic circle in Mountain Brook Village, proceed eastbound on Montevallo Road and then turn onto Church Street into Crestline Village. The parade will end at La Paz.
