MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. ( WHNT ) — After seven days of testimony, a jury has found Frederic Rogers guilty of multiple counts of capital murder.

The jury received full instructions on August 27 at 12:42 p.m. and began deliberations at 2:02 p.m. The jury was called back into the courtroom and asked the judge to reread the definitions of the charges. They left to deliberate again at 3:38 p.m. but decided to go home without a verdict.

Deliberations lasted four hours over two days. The jury returned a guilty verdict on Wednesday, August 28.

Rogers was convicted of three counts of capital murder:

    • Count two: Intentionally killing two or more people in one course of conduct
    • Count four: Capital murder during a second-degree burglary
    • Count six: Capital murder during arson

The jury found him not guilty of the robbery charge.

Counts three and five were thrown out earlier in the trial.

The state rested its case on Monday and Tuesday morning, the defense rested .

Rogers was found guilty of murdering seven people in what investigators said was a dispute within their motorcycle club dubbed “The Seven Deadly Sins.” John Legg is also accused of killing the seven people but does not have a trial date yet.

The investigators call it the “worst crime” in Morgan County history .

The pair was arrested in Oregon after surveillance video showed them at Rogers’ grandmother’s house. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office was initially tipped off about them after a traffic stop in Colorado.

In closing arguments, the State’s Courtney Shellack said, “There’s nothing that I need to do to convince you that he’s guilty of capital murder. We’re not arguing about the facts because he told you that he went there to kill everyone. He went there to kill 7 people.”

Now, the case will go to a penalty phase. The state is seeking the death penalty against Rogers.
