Des Moines high-speed chase ends after suspect crashes into vehicle

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is investigating after a high-speed chase ended with the suspect crashing into a vehicle on Wednesday.

According to a post on X from DMPD, officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was seen driving erratically at high speeds near East 14th Street and University Avenue. The suspect vehicle fled westbound on University Avenue before rear-ending another vehicle near Ohio Street.

The suspect was apprehended at the scene and then transported to a hospital for medical examination. The driver of the vehicle that was hit was treated by medics at the scene.

Westbound lanes of University Avenue were closed as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
