URBANDALE, Iowa – A fiery semi-truck crash on I-80 in Urbandale caused traffic slowdowns Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes, east of 86 th Street when a semi-truck collided with the barrier and caught on fire, according to Officer Collin Ten Haken with the Urbandale Police Department. The fire caused westbound lanes of the interstate to be completely shut down for a time. Even some of the inner lanes of eastbound traffic were blocked in order for emergency vehicles to assist at the scene.

Around 6:45 a.m., the Iowa DOT said all lanes of travel were open again, but the left shoulder of westbound I-80 was still blocked.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution in the area of the crash as crews continue to clear the scene.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Iowa State Patrol.
