Indiana Honors 104 Family Farms

INDIANAPOLIS — Each year, Indiana honors family farms operated by the same family for 100, 150, or 200 years with Centennial, Sesquicentennial, or Bicentennial Hoosier Homestead Award.

At the Indiana State Fair this week, 104 families were recognized for their dedication to agriculture. State Representative Wendy McNamara said, “Family-owned farms are the backbone of agriculture in our state. Hoosiers are truly blessed to have families running farms for over 100 years, and I’m glad we can honor their efforts with this award.”

State Representative David Abbott noted that the award program started in 1976, highlighting these farms’ impact on Indiana’s economic and cultural growth. “The agricultural industry is thriving in Indiana, thanks to Hoosier farm families dedicated to preserving their legacy farms. Congratulations to these local farmers, and I wish you continued success,” Abbott said.

State Representative Craig Snow added that over 6,000 farms have received this honor in the past 45 years. “There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes to keep family farms running for generations. It often means long days and nights, so it’s great when these families are recognized for their hard work.”
