WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Local emergency responders rolled up their sleeves on Friday for a day of friendly competition to gain donations of a critical, life-saving resource.
On Friday, June 21, 2024, the Wichita Falls Police Department, the Wichita Falls Fire Department, the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office, and AMR participated in Our Blood Institute’s annual Boots and Badges Blood Drive.
LOCAL NEWS: Police investigating murder in Wichita Falls OBI was at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church collecting donations on Friday, with the four agencies competing to see which one could garner the most blood donors.
Jessica Hobert, Account Consultant for OBI, said it is not about who wins the competition, but how their donations will be used to benefit the community,
“Blood is used every single day at every hospital for routine procedures, but also for things like accidents, new mothers having babies, things like that,” Hobert said. “So it is essential because it’s not something we can reproduce in a lab. It has to be donated. And I think it’s one of the most selfless things you can do for another human being.”
All blood donations made in Wichita Falls stay in our community.
Hobert said OBI is always looking for blood donations. Those interested in becoming a blood donor can schedule an appointment to do so on O B I’s website .
