WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The fifth annual Nexstar Spots Awards and Hall of Fame banquet is set for Thursday, July 11, 2024, inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus of MSU Texas.

One of three Texoma male athletes attending a Class 4A or 5A school will be named the Large School Male Athlete of the Year, one of 18 honors being awarded in 2024.

The nominees for the 2024 Large School Male Athlete of the Year are listed below:

A rare 3-sport athlete at the Class 5A level, Johnson stars on the football field, basketball court, and soccer pitch.

Johnson led the Raiders backfield with nearly 1,700 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns.

Johnson pulled double-duty as Rider’s primary kicker, often scoring a touchdown then lining up for the extra point, converting 59 PATs, and connecting on 4 of 5 field goals. Johnson was named the District MVP, earning All-State recognition.

After football season, the senior split time between the soccer field and the basketball court. Johnson was a Second Team All-Region Selection with 8 goals and 6 assists for the Raiders. At one point, he played a soccer game in the afternoon and a basketball game later that same night.

    Jimmell McFalls — Hirschi Huskies

McFalls is a three-year quarterback for Hirschi. In 2024, he was named District MVP, throwing for 1,995 yards, good for third-most in a single season in school history.

McFalls tossed 21 touchdown passes, which is tied for second-most in a single season. He only threw 3 interceptions in 2024. On the ground, McFalls rushed for 745 yards and 7 additional touchdowns.

As for McFalls’ career numbers, he closed down Hirschi High School as the all-time leading passer, and he did so after his junior season. His 4,827 yards and 56 touchdowns through the air are Hirschi records that will never be broken.

McFalls is also a First-Team All-District basketball player, averaging 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.

During Thompson’s junior season as quarterback for the Steers, he led Graham to 10 wins at the helm of a potent offense, averaging more than 50 points per game in those 10 victories.

The Steers rose as high as 8th in the Texas Football State Rankings in 2024.

Thompson was a First Team All-District selection.

Thompson completed 64 percent of his passes, throwing for over 2,300 yards with 23 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions. His true dual-threat ability led to nearly 700 rushing yards and 13 more scores.

Thompson also competed in basketball, baseball, and track and field for Graham.
