WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — In mid-June, just one pool of mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile Virus.

As of Monday, July 15, 15 zones in the Wichita Health District have tested positive for West Nile Virus. According to the city’s website, there are 47 “Mosquito Zones,” with zones 1-32 inside the city limits and zones numbered 50 to 64 outside of the city limits.

As the Health District’s Environmental Health Division continues its integrated pest management program for mosquito control, Samantha Blair, administrator, reiterated safety protocols.

Will rain chances put an end to heat advisories for Texoma?

“I would emphasize the importance of wearing an EPA-approved insect repellent when outdoors, making sure to dump, drain, and wipe the sides of items that hold water, and limit activities during the dawn-dusk timeframes,” she said.

While the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District has not received any reports of a positive human case of West Nile Virus this season, please contact your healthcare provider if you experience flu-like symptoms following a mosquito bite.

The mosquito zones are on the city’s Interactive Mosquito Spray Map. In addition to the interactive map, residents can find more information about West Nile Virus activity on the Health District’s website.

Please call ( 940) 761-7890 to request that your neighborhood be sprayed for mosquitoes. Please visit the city’s website for more information about the abatement program .
