Who are the top high school football players for the 2024 season in the Greater Wichita Falls area?

We’re going to try to help answer that question.

Over the next few weeks, we will be releasing lists of the top players at each position, regardless of which classification their respective school competes.

This venture starts with the top 10 quarterbacks and offensive linemen, and will conclude with the third annual Red River 22 Preseason Super Team released on Aug. 19.

First, a few notes about these top 10 selections:

Players are listed in alphabetical order. We are not ranking them one through 10.

Athletes are only eligible to appear on one top 10 list. If you don’t see your favorite player’s name on this list, there’s a chance he will be mentioned later at another position.

However, appearing on a certain position list does not limit a player to making the Super Team at that position.

Finally, before jumping into the quarterback list, a special thanks to Nolan Clark of 940 GameDay fame for creating the graphics to go with this list. He's absolutely worth the follow on Facebook or Twitter .

    TOP 10 QUARTERBACKS

Brock Belcher , So., Windthorst – Belcher is the only quarterback returning in the area who passed and rushed for at least 1,000 yards (2,552 passing, 1,063 rushing). He was only the fourth freshman to be named to the Red River 22 team in the 50-year history of the TRN’s all-area squad.

Joe Castles, Jr., Memorial – Castles made the transition from Class 2A to Class 5A football last season, showing glimpses of his impressive talent. He completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 1,690 yards, 24 TDs and eight interceptions.

Keegan Hayes, So., Benjamin – Hayes isn’t a traditional quarterback. In the realm of six-man football, he’s considered a spreadback. With Grayson Rigdon gone, Hayes will be the focal point of the Mustangs’ offense, and he showed big play ability with his arm and legs as a freshman.

Brayden Loyd , Sr., Seymour – Nobody in the area threw the ball more often than Loyd, who averaged nearly 30 attempts per game. And nobody had a better touchdown-to-interception ratio (47 to 4) or averaged more passing yards per game (318.3).

Jimmell McFalls, Sr., Legacy – McFalls was a three-year starter for Hirschi and will be Legacy’s first quarterback, giving the fledgling program an experienced signal-caller. He completed 59.7 percent of his passes for 1,995 yards, 21 TDs and three interceptions while rushing for 745 yards and seven more TDs.

Ian McKiddy , So., Electra – McKiddy played sparingly at QB last season, backing up and learning from his older brother Collin. It’s Ian’s turn now, and his speed gives Electra’s ground game another dimension.

Ty Scott, Jr., Vernon – Scott also got experience playing QB, standing in for three-year starter Kale Sherrill last season due to injury. Scott has impressive speed, making him a nice fit for the Lions’ slot-T offense.

Landon Smith , Sr., Archer City – Smith was just an athlete playing quarterback last year. He’s developed his skills now and has a high ceiling heading into his second season as the Wildcats’ signal-caller.

Ty Thompson, Sr., Graham – Thompson is the second four-year starter on this list. It’s been an impressive career at Graham, including last season’s 2,331 yards, 23 TDs and three interceptions. He also had more success running the ball than ever before with 674 yards and 13 TDs.

Malachi Williams, Jr., City View – Williams started a couple games behind center last season but has primarily been the Mustangs’ wildcat QB. He’s an electric athlete with a good enough arm to keep defenses honest.
