WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The beginning of the new school year is just a few weeks away, and many families are doing some back-to-school shopping.
For some of those families that can’t afford everything they need to start the school year, the Deep End has them covered with its annual shoe drive.
7th annual BBQ benefit gets vital donations to Archer County VFD The Deep End’s owner, Jason Hester, said they host several gaming events throughout the year to raise funds to purchase new shoes that will be given away. He said they host this shoe drive and giveaway because he knows all too well what it was like growing up with very little.
“A lot of us growing up didn’t have shoes, didn’t have the fancy shoes. Some of my friends didn’t have shoes at all growing up. They had outgrown their shoes and they need new shoes, but some people can’t afford them,” Hester said. “So we do this, no questions asked. We don’t care who you are, what you did, how much money you make. Come and get some shoes. It’s for everybody.”
Hester said the Deep End always accepts monetary donations or donations of new or gently used shoes for this giveaway, which will kick off at the arcade at 5120 Greenbriar Road, beginning at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11.
He said anyone can come in and pick up some new shoes, no questions asked. To make a monetary donation, contact the Deep End online or via Facebook .
