Keep moving, pay later – New policy on Kansas Turnpike
By Laura McMillan,

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The next time you use the Kansas Turnpike, you will not have to stop to take a toll ticket or to pay a toll. As of Monday, the turnpike is a cashless toll system. Drivers will pay through KTAG accounts. If they don’t have a KTAG, they’ll be identified through their license plates and billed.
Late Sunday night, the last vehicles to pay cash went through the Kansas Turnpike Authority tollbooths.

Then workers put up new signs that say “Keep Moving” and took down outdated signs, such as those pointing to KTAG lanes.

After nearly 68 years of manual toll collection, the KTA switched to cashless tolling at midnight.
“We thank all KTA toll collectors over the years. They not only collected tolls but were a friendly face for many customers,” Steve Hewitt, KTA CEO, said in a news release. “Their legacy of kindness and outstanding service will live on in many ways here at KTA.”
The new way to pay is online, by mail, or at a KTA customer service center.
“We’re pleased with how quickly the task of converting the roadway occurred,” said Bruce Meisch, KTA’s director of technology. “As planned, converting our back-office and preparing the new toll payment system, DriveKS and its accompanying mobile app, will take just a bit more time.”
KTA’s three customer service centers are closed, and related websites and the mobile app are unavailable until July 8. During this time, June billing will be finalized in the old system, and data will be migrated to the new DriveKS.com system.
Beginning July 8:
Customer service teams and self-service (web and mobile) platforms will again be available at DriveKS.com.
KTAG customers can log in to their accounts at DriveKS.com using their existing login credentials.
Customers who receive violations or video toll statements generated prior to conversion can use the statement and account ID to pay at DriveKS.com.
Taking down the tollbooths and reconfiguring the lanes around them will take about a year and a half.
“Not having vehicles stopped at a toll booth, creating a potential collision point, makes for a safer road and better customer experience,” David Jacobson, director of engineering, said.
