The U.S. Department of Justice says it has completed its investigation of Wichita Public Schools, and found discrimination against students based on race and disabilities.

The three main areas include secluding students and the use of restraints when it comes to students with disabilities.  The second is racial discrimination when it comes to disciplinary action.  The third is racial discrimination when it comes to involving law enforcement.

Superintendent Kelly Bielefeld says, the district sees the need to make changes.  They have already created the Behavior, Management and Support Oversite Office to oversee discipline as outlined by the DOJ report.

The district will also create a new code of conduct and will be looking for feedback from families, teachers and community members in creating the new code.

They hope to have a first draft ready to send to the DOJ by mid-October.
