WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Strong winds from a storm that swept through the area Tuesday took a fireworks tent and tossed it in the air. It happened around 6 p.m. at a stand at the intersection of 159th Street East and Kellogg.

The owner tells KSN News that the tent was rated for strong wind but couldn’t withstand the gusts from the storm. It flew about 100 feet before landing in a field. Luckily, no one was seriously injured.

“I think we got lucky the tent didn’t fall. It flipped over. So, I think we got very, very lucky that it didn’t. You know, it was crazy. There was a tent there, and then, there was no tent there. You could see everyone standing. We were very, very lucky everyone got out safe,” Jacob Marietta, Tent City Fireworks, said.

At noon on Wednesday, the tent reopened and was restocked with new fireworks. Portions of the proceeds go to support local organizations, including Peace Lutheran Church.
