WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Evergy started Wednesday with 8,900 outages in Kansas and Missouri . In Sedgwick County, the outages affected a little over 1,000 customers.

On Tuesday afternoon, severe storms swept through the area, bringing high wind and heavy rain. The storm caused 53,000 outages, with the most happening in Wichita and the Kansas City area.

Evergy says crews are in the field right now restoring power where they can, as storms are still moving through the area. By 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, about 4,600 customers remain without power in Kansas and Missouri.

The company says crews will work around the clock until everyone is restored.

“Currently, without storm delays, we expect that all customers in the Wichita metro area will have power restored by late tonight and that restoration to all customers in the Kansas City metro area will be complete overnight,” Evergy posted on its website. “Storms and rain that come through the Evergy service area will delay the work and prolong restoration times. Crews will continue to work as long as it is safe.”
