Storm Track 3 Forecast: A not-so-hot 4th of July, more weekend storm chances
By Jack Maney,
Storms moved through Kansas overnight producing some sporadic wind damage and some impressive gusts!
We are expected to keep things more on the dry side today as a cold front sweeps out some of the moisture responsible for our rains in the last few days. This will help to lower our humidity as well as the temperatures today, with 80s and low 90s expected for most.
There should be few issues for fireworks shows tonight, but there might be a few storms afoot especially to the east.
Storms bubble up along the advancing front by late afternoon, mainly east of the turnpike. These will move out quickly and should be clear of the KSN viewing area by around sunset.
A few storms may become severe, but most of the severe activity is expected to come together farther to the east.
A few showers develop tonight in southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma panhandle.
Lows will be mild in the 50s and 60s tonight.
North winds continue to blow tomorrow, keeping things mostly dry and holding temperatures in the 80s for most.
A few storms might develop in northwest Kansas and drift to the southeast in the evening tomorrow, but these will be isolated and most will stay dry.
A few more afternoon storms will be possible on Saturday, and one or two may be able to become severe.
On Sunday, a cold front will move in and that should spark another wave of thunderstorms, some of which could be severe. The highest chance of storms will be in central Kansas.
This next front will keep temperatures near or slightly below average into early next week. We avoid any extreme heat days for at least the next seven days!
Hurricane Beryl continues to churn across the Caribbean Sea, slowly weakening as it goes. The storm is expected to make landfall in the Yucatan peninsula before emerging into the Gulf of Mexico. From there, it may begin to restrengthen and make more of a northward turn, which may bring it near the southern coast of Texas.
