    Wichita State alum to play in MLB’s Home Run Derby

    WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Former Wichita State University infielder Alec Bohm is hoping to live up to his last name by hitting bombs during the MLB All-Star Weekend in Arlington, Texas.

    On top of playing in the MLB All-Star Game, Bohm is set to represent the Philadelphia Phillies in the Home Run Derby on Monday, July 15.

    So far this season, Bohm has hit 11 home runs and driven in 70 RBI with a batting average of .296. The Omaha, Nebraska, native has played in 85 games this season.

    The MLB All-Star Weekend starts on Friday, July 12, with the HBCU Classic and ends with the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 16.

    Bohm will be starting at the hot corner at third base in the All-Star Game as well.

    Bohm was with the Shockers program from 2016 to 2018 after going undrafted out of high school in Omaha, Nebraska. As a freshman, he batted .303 with six home runs and 30 RBIs, receiving Freshman All-America honors.

    Through his entire career with the Shockers, he hit .317, bringing in 33 home runs, 40 extra-base hits, and 126 RBIs.

    Bohm was selected in the first round by the Phillies in 2018 and worked his way through the minor league system before making his professional debut on Aug. 13, 2020.
