WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Fire Department says it is still collecting data on this year’s fireworks season.

So far, the WFD says that fireworks are to blame for one house fire. The fire department says the fire started from improper disposal of fireworks.

The WFD also says authorities issued 34 citations.

The City of Wichita allowed aerial fireworks to be sold inside city limits this year. Aerial fireworks were allowed to be shot from July 3 through July 5. “Safe and sane” fireworks, those that don’t exceed 15 feet from the ground, were allowed to be shot from June 27 to July 5. The hours for fireworks were 10 a.m. to midnight.

The City of Wichita fines are hefty this year. A first-time violation will result in a $1,000 fine and/or 50 community service hours, plus court fines. A second violation costs $1,500, and a third is $2,000.
