Man killed by Wichita police car had high level of alcohol in his system, autopsy says

A man who was struck and killed by a Wichita police cruiser in February had high amounts of alcohol in his system, an autopsy report shows.

Jeffrey Moss, 51, of Wichita , was on foot crossing a street in southwest Wichita shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17. He was struck by a police vehicle being driven by a 29-year-old officer, The Eagle previously reported.

Moss’ autopsy report says he died from multiple blunt force injuries to his body and that his death is considered an accident. The Eagle obtained the autopsy report, filed on May 14, through Sedgwick County district court.

Moss’ blood alcohol concentration was .338, according to his autopsy report.

BAC is a measurement of how much alcohol is in a person’s blood.

At a BAC of .338, an individual may experience alcohol poisoning and loss of consciousness, according to Cleveland Clinic .

Moss was a father and grandfather who loved grilling, playing poker, outdoor walks and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.

“He had an exceptional work ethic, he never missed a day. He will be remembered by always being a happy person,” his obituary said .
