Wichita Public Library branch getting renovations

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Construction is set to begin on one of the Wichita Public Library’s branches.

A news release from the City of Wichita said the Rockwell Branch, located at 5939 E. 9th St., will receive extensive renovations and small additions to the existing building. It’s a part of the library’s master plan to enhance services at Wichita Public Library branches.

The expansion is set to begin on July 29 and is expected to be completed in December. Following that, interior remodeling of the existing building will begin, which could cause some service interruptions.

Library staff will communicate directly with customers about anticipated changes and will post on social media platforms and on the Library website, according to the news release.

The project will add meeting and study rooms, a teen section, and a drive-up window for easier materials pickup, the city said. The children’s room and other areas will undergo extensive renovations. The iconic fireplace will remain, and a small “living room” will be built around it, providing great spaces for residents to lounge. Enhanced technology will also be incorporated.

The entire project is expected to be completed in spring 2025. During the construction, you can also access these library locations:
