Bridge collapses on Highway 42 near Parkin, Emergency repairs disrupting water service
PARKIN — An emergency situation is ongoing in the City of Parkin after the Coldwater bridge fell shortly after 10 a.m. this morning. Cross County Sheriff David West said the bridge, located at Arkansas Highway 42 and Arkansas Highway 75 in the Parkin area, had already been closed by the Arkansas Department of Transportation. The cause of the bridge remains unknown. No injuries were reported.

Parkin Archeological superintendent unveils history during Cross County Library Summer Reading program
WYNNE — Parkin Archeological State Park Superintendent Nathan Odom visited the Cross County Library yesterday for its Summer Reading Program. Odom discussed the history of the park, which is located at the site of a Mississippian Period American Indian village more than 1,000 years ago. Parkin’s new fire station complete, construction begins on water plant upgrades
PARKIN — Construction is complete for the new fire station in Parkin. Parkin Mayor Diane Patterson gives an update on the project. “Our fire station is completed. We are doing our final paperwork on it within a couple of weeks. Everything is done. The only thing we’re waiting on is Entergy to come and hook power up to it,” she said. “We were not able to afford a kitchen and a meeting room right now because the grant funds were limited to the $300,000. We had to build what we could build for that amount of money.”
